Suicide Education and Prevention Infographics
The most significant part of my project was creating suicide infographics to educate the public about the severity of suicide within the United States. Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in America (CDC). I started by researching credible mental health agencies and organizations. Once I finished researching, I began to write the text for the infographics.
Throughout my research, I found that there was a lot of information that could be very overwhelming to someone trying to learn about suicide. This led me to create simple and straightforward infographics to help readers easily digest this information. Rather than just listing facts, I wanted to start a conversation to better appeal to the reader's emotions. This writing style is what really makes my infographics stand out compared to other resources available. I worked with a graphic designer to create professional resources and incorporate my words with simple and straightforward graphics. After designing my infographics, I sent them to the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation, ADAMH Board of Franklin County, and Nationwide Children's Hospital for professional review. After many rounds of revisions, I created resources to distribute to the public. I compiled a list of state and national mental health organizations, state public health agencies, and other organizations to distribute my infographics. While I received many flat-out rejections and even more non-responses, I still connected with many organizations to share my resources with the public. |
