Global Impact
Webinar Panelist
I was a spokesperson for mental health at a global webinar with Girl Scouts of the USA and Johnson & Johnson in October 2021. This virtual event, Awesome Girls: Tackling Global Public Health Challenges, had attendees from across the USA and around the world. The mental health panel featured myself and Dr. Ginger Smith-Swintosky, a neuroscientist with Johnson & Johnson. Ginger is also a former Girl Scout! We discussed why mental health is a global public health issue and the devastating effect of Covid-19 on mental health. After the event, Ginger asked to use my infographics for her mental health work in Africa! |
International Psychiatry Conference
While distributing my project, I reached out to The Ohio State University Suicide Prevention Program about providing my suicide infographics to their students and faculty. While there were logistical issues with adding my infographics to their website, Dr. Darcy Haag Granello, Director of the Suicide Prevention Program, featured my infographics in her Keynote Speech at the International Congress on Psychiatry Conference in Guilin, China, in June 2021. Her speech showcased my infographics to hundreds of academic scholars from all around the world. At this conference, I hope my infographics sparked hope for other suicide prevention programming for our youth.

National ImpactI wrote to my representatives in Congress about the importance of mental health and access to suicide prevention resources. I advocated for adding the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number to the emergency dialing pad of all United States cell phones. Asking for help can be really hard, especially for someone who is experiencing suicidal thoughts. That is why adding the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to cell phones would help people get the help they need.
I contacted my U.S. Senators, Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown, as well as my U.S. Congressman, Troy Balderson. I also reached out to my Ohio Senators, Stephanie Krunze and Beth Liston. While none of my representatives proposed my legislation, they did agree that mental health is important and deserves more attention. |

Impact in Schools
I partnered with the Ohio PTA to destigmatize mental health. I wrote an article entitled "Mental Health from the Eyes of a Student," which was sent to 54,000 parent and teacher subscribers across Ohio. In April 2021, I was a featured speaker at the Ohio PTA Town Hall Meeting on mental health where I spoke about my project and the article! To the right, you can listen to me talking about my project and reading my article, or you can read it yourself down below!

Cover StoryThis Week Worthington News interviewed me about
my project! Journalist Stephen Borgna reached out to me for an interview about my project. The article talks about my infographic work with the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation, my murals, and my story. This cover story brought a lot of attention to my project and the importance of suicide awareness. I had friends calling me saying that they saw me in the newspaper, and it was gratifying to see the message of my project getting the spotlight it deserves. This Week News also covered my work with the Worthington Libraries in another article. This article talks about my new interactive mural for the Old Worthington Library, which spreads awareness and education about suicide in our community.
