Project Overview
- My suicide education and awareness infographics are now used by 11 partner organizations throughout Columbus and Franklin County, across the state of Ohio, as well as in Alabama and Florida.
- In October 2021, I was a featured panelist for a global webinar with Girl Scouts of the USA and Johnson & Johnson on the pandemic and mental health.
- The Director of the Suicide Prevention Program at The Ohio State University featured my infographics in a keynote speech for international scholars in Guilin, China, in June 2021.
- During the pandemic, I published an article about student mental health for the Ohio PTA. My article was sent to 54,000 subscribers and posted on their blog. I was a featured speaker at their Town Hall Meeting about student mental health in April 2021.
- To promote suicide awareness locally, I designed and installed two murals. The Worthington Community Center installed the first mural in March 2021. The second interactive mural for Worthington Libraries included more than 300 participants in June and July 2021.
- My project earned the 2022 ServeOhio Award and the 2021 City of Worthington Good Neighbor Award. The Columbus Dispatch named me one of the top five 2022 Everyday Heroes of Central Ohio.

My StoryWhen I was 14, I lost someone to suicide. He was one of 48,344 Americans who died by suicide in 2018. Not only do we lose loved ones, but families and friends are forever changed after a suicide occurs.
My project educated our community about the importance of mental health and how to talk about suicide. Raising awareness about the signs of suicide makes people more vigilant about symptoms of suicide in their loved ones. By sharing my story, I hope that other people who have been affected by suicide or have experienced suicidal thoughts realize that they are not alone. |
